Zhongxing Branch Library
The Zhongxing Branch was originally established as the Taiwan Provincial Government Library to serve government staff. In 1959, responding to the growing reading culture, it was transformed into a public library. Following the streamlining of provincial government functions in 1999, the library was merged into the “Data Room, Library Section” while continuing to operate as a public library. On January 1, 2013, it became part of the National Library of Public Information and was renamed the “National Library of Public Information, Zhongxing Branch,” aligning its services and quality with the main library.
In 2015, a comprehensive renovation was carried out to enhance service quality, upgrade facilities, and better meet public expectations. The library reopened on January 26, 2016. The renovated space not only meets public safety, fire regulations, and accessibility standards, but also provides designated areas for different age groups, offering readers a variety of comfortable reading spaces.
Located in a prime area of Zhongxing New Village, the branch is adjacent to a children’s park and close to a post office, police station, hospital, high school, Zhongxing Hall, and sports plaza. The building consists of four above-ground floors and one basement level, covering a total floor area of 4,165 square meters, with an outdoor parking lot for cars and scooters and a courtyard park.
The Zhongxing Branch holds over 190,000 books and periodicals (as of December 2025). Its collection highlights include the Taiwan Provincial Government Gazette, the Provincial Construction Reference Compilation, and the Taiwan Provincial Government Policy Reports published between 1945 and 2005. These materials are kept in closed stacks but can be searched through the library catalog, borrowed, or photocopied on-site. They are also available online via the Government Gazette Information Network for full-text browsing.
Self-Checkout and Return Facilities:
Zhongxing Branch is equipped with self-checkout and return machines, allowing users to borrow and return materials independently without visiting the circulation desk.
