In 2012, the National Library of Public Information (NLPI) introduced a self-pickup service. In December 2017, the NLPI main library established a self-pickup area as a demonstration site for intelligent library convenience services. This area features the "Intelligent RFID Bookshelf Equipment and Reservation Pickup Integration System."
Each compartment of the smart bookshelf is equipped with RFID sensors that read information from chips embedded in the books and detect their exact location. Using the query machine, readers can quickly find their reserved books with the help of guiding lights. The RFID detection technology also ensures that only authorized readers can access the reserved books, preventing unauthorized access and detecting any books that have not been checked out.
